Potential Pottery Giveaway?

Today was a very busy day! I had two auditions and pottery class. While that may not sound like much, it takes a lot of prep for someone who doesn’t live in the city. It took quite a few hours, but the auditions went really well. Of course you’ll be the first to hear if anything comes of them :).

For breakfast, I made an omelette with two eggs and some cheddar cheese and a mini-Monsta made with spinach, unsweetened soymilk, lemon, lime, banana, fresh peaches and some cinnamon! It tasted EXACTLY like peach pie. I have one peach left from the farmers’ market, and cannot WAIT for tomorrey’s Monsta!

Lunch was some leftover pineapple-fried-rice made with brown rice in one of my new pottery creations. Hooray for microwave and dishwasher safe!
After the auditions, I headed over to the parental unit’s house and we all went out for some frozen yogurt!
At Tutti Frutti I got a small amount of peanut butter and cake batter fro-yo, then topped it with peanut butter cups, cookie dough and brownies. I was craving the sweets today!
My mom and I stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up some supplies for pottery class.
We brought some delicious, fancy Monte Ducay “red wine” to share with the class! Cheap and classy :).
Wine out of handmade pottery just tastes more earthy and robust!
This was my setup for the night. I had quite a few bowls and mugs to trim!
I accidentally trimmed one of my mugs too much and punched a hole in the bottom. I decided to make this mug into a berry mug. You all know how much I love eating food out of cups, so now I can throw a bunch of berries in here, rinse them off and have some food to-go!
At least it looks interesting!
My mom made some awesome bowls today! This was made with 2.5lbs of clay. She’s much more brave than I am!
This entire row consisted of all of my creations. I ended up making two handles for my taller mugs. You have to “pull” handles, which is a very, very awkward thing to do. Google it and you’ll understand what I mean. WARNING: Prepare for awkwardness. I’m such a teenager 😛
I think I’ll make all future handles by wrapping coils…
I also got back a bowl that I finished glazing last week!
I have no idea what I’m going to do with so many bowls! Anyone want one? Maybe I should do a giveaway!
I definitely learned a lot at class tonight! I learned that pulling handles is just not for me, that sipping wine during class makes me more mellow when I puncture holes in beautiful mugs, and that I should start bringing a sweatshirt to class. Fall just might be here – officially!
If I did a giveaway of some of my creations, would anyone be interested?

Blog Name Redeemed!

I am back on the exercise wagon!!! Today, I completely overdid my workout and loved every second of it! I hiked. I biked. I ate! Boo to the yah!

First, we’ll start with first things first. Firstly…

I had breakfast before my monster! This was an omelette with 2 eggs, 1/2 a cup of spinach, 2 teaspoons of chopped sun-dried tomatoes (I use the ones that are soaked in oil, then drain them – the flavor is so much better than dry!), and 1 teaspoon of goat cheese.
My roommate was up late last night, and me, being the wonderful person that I am, decided to wait until both my roommates were awake to share the awesomeness that is the Green Monster!
By the time they were both awake, I’d eaten my omelette and was pretty full, so I had a half of a Monsta. Mine had 1 cup of spinach, 1/3 a cup of unsweetened soymilk, 1/8 a cup of frozen cherries, 1/3 of a banana and lemon juice.
We got on the trail very, very late. For a change, my roomie and I tried a different trail – this was decided halfway to the national park while we were in the car, and I had no camera to document. It was beautiful! There was a thick marine layer and we walked through mist for the entire hour. This trail was a steep downhill for 1.43 miles, but that meant that it was another 1.43 miles back up that steep hill. It hurt. I loved it!
After we got back to the house, I decided that since I was all sweaty and gross anyway, I might as well get on my bike! I biked down to the local library to return some books, and pick up some more. It took me about 5 minutes to lock my bike because I wanted to lock my wheel and frame to the bike rack, but alas, it wouldn’t fit.
I figured that since I’m not at UCSB anymore, no one will be out to steal my tire or bike seat.
It was still there when I came out! Yay!!!
I biked around with a full backpack – about 6.75 miles of which only the last .2 miles KILLED me! I don’t think I can detail the hill I live on enough to make you understand the pain that is involved in the climb up. I’ll have to post a picture tomorrey.
I finally removed the 40 pounds of books that I’d had strapped to my back, and collapsed onto the couch.
My interests of the week: Flexitarianism, Veganism and mountain biking!
I read the flexitarian book and wasn’t very inspired. It’s not as much of a nutritional info book as it is a mixture of random recipes. Meh. Next! The Veganomicon book (included in my favorites –>) is pretty cool! I’ll probably be dabbling in that during the next week – I’m going to do a week of veganism, just to see if I can! If you haven’t noticed, I really enjoy ridiculous challenges that have no real purpose to them except to prove that I can do anything :). The other books I’ll get to tomorrow.
After showering, I chugged about 48 ounces of water immediately, then had a mini-salad to calm my stomach while I sauteed some zucchini.
1 cup of chopped lettuce and 1/4 a cup of chopped bell pepper with 1 teaspoon of homemade balsamic dressing.
Lots of Herbes de Provence!
Lunch was 1/4 cup of Barilla Plus pasta with tomato-basil marinara, 1/8 a cup of my sauteed zucchini and a teaspoon of goat cheese.
After fooding, I fell into the barcalounger and flipped through some of my books. Before I knew it, my alarm was going off to remind me that I had to go to work. I threw on some clothes and makeup (blah), grabbed some books and headed out.
My first stop was to get a little more calories into my system. I worked hard today!
OOOOOH YEAAAAH! I had a small with amaretto chocolate chip, rocky road and Grandma’s Penuche from Paciugo. This totally made my day!
I actually had work to do at work! I was slammed with unpacking and repacking of boxes, cleaning counters and all that fun stuff, so the time flew by. It’s such a nice change to not be staring at the minutes creeping by on the clock.
When I got home, I was going to have a nice hot cup of tea, but instead I went for this:
Stockyard Oatmeal Stout! This had a wonderful mocha smell, and tasted like a rich coffee with some toffee/chocolate mixed in. It was very smooth and had a great amount of carbonation – some of you may know that I don’t like flat beers I.E. Guinness and the like. I’ll be back for this one, especially since it’s only a dollar down at my local Trader Joe’s!
I now feel warm and sleepy – the perfect way to feel after a beer, so I’m off to read some of my mountain biking books and prepare for another day tomorrow full of exercise, FARMERS’ MARKET, cooking and another late shift at work.
Anyone up for a week-long vegan challenge? C’mon, give it a try!

Food On-the-Go!

A quick warning to everyone: Do not attempt to recreate or consume the meals I had today! Today was definitely not a “balanced” food day :-/.

This be an omelette with 2 eggs and a massive sprinkling of sharp cheddar cheese. See what happens when I don’t have GM ingredients in the morning? I sabotage myself!
I had two gigantic mugs of coffee, then headed out to pick up supplies from Trader Joe’s. The drive into LA took about an hour (traffic was horrific – lots of highway construction going on). I parked on the street with 15 minutes to spare, so I scarfed down my lunch.
Trader Joe’s Turkey Club Wrap: Turkey, lettuce, tomato, BACON, and some mayonnaise wrapped in a piece of lavash bread.
Class today was “listening day”. We get our sides (scripts) with the our partner’s lines blacked out. We have an hour to learn our lines, but can’t rehearse with our partners at all, then the first time we run the scene is in front of the class. This exercise really forces you to listen to everything your partner is saying, instead of just waiting for your cue word to begin your next line.
I had an audition last year right after this “listening” class, and the casting director said to me, “You are the first actor I’ve seen so far that was actually listening to what I was saying, and not just waiting for your cue!” I got a callback for that role. Then they ended up doing a second round of auditions and hired a cast made entirely of models. Seriously, the entire cast was 5’9″ or above! Not that I’m bitter because I’m short or anything… 🙂
On my way over to work at the management office, I scarfed down a Clif Bar.
Oooooh, yeah! Chocolate Brownie, baby!
Work was really busy! There were about 34 different series/films casting out there, with a few roles in each project to fill. I spent a good four hours doing nothing but matching actors to roles, sending e-mails, and calling actors who got called in for a commercial that’s casting tomorrey! Woohoo!
I fought some evil traffic on the way home, swung by Trader Joe’s (twice in one day!) to pick up some dinner makings. It was so wonderful coming back from LA: I drove into a wall of marine layer and got a nice misting from the low clouds. Heavenly!
When I got back I had a Mission St. Hefeweizen waiting for me in my new wheat beer glass.
So purdy! That glass is gigantic!!!
Dinner was a wonderful gourmet coconut-butterfly shrimp. Recipe to follow:
Coconut Shrimp Recipe:
1. Go to Trader Joe’s.
2. Pick up box of frozen Coconut Shrimp.
3. Preheat oven, then put shrimp in.
4. Take shrimp out.
5. Serve with mango chutney.
6. DEVOUR.
I hope you could all follow that recipe. I know it’s a little intricate, but if you just take the time to read it through a few times before you attempt it, it turns out to be quite delicious!
Dessert was two (!!!) Trader Joe’s chocolate soy ice cream bars. I now feel slightly ill as I gulp down water and watch Chopped on the Food Network, hence my beginning warning: DO NOT ATTEMPT TODAY’S FOOD CHOICES!
To recap: today was not my smartest in food choices, but I have the entire day off tomorrow, so I’ll be sure to make lots of homemade meals, and start the day off with 3 servings of veggies in my Green Monsta! Also, keep your eyes peeled for Friday! Something amazing is coming that will involve wood, salt water, lavender and tents!
Go ahead, try to guess what that means 🙂

Lost in a Silent Ballet

Title is an Owl City reference. Did you get it? If you did, you win! If you didn’t just go buy the album, okay?

Today was an awful day. Have you ever had one of those? There was no specific reason, everything was just overwhelming to me. Customers were impatient and mean, certain coworkers were jerks who kept calling everyone “jerks”, and it was a beautiful Saturday and I was at work. Need I say more?

I think I’ll blame the fact that I had no Green Monster in the morning.
I’m not saying my breakfast wasn’t wonderful – it was! I had an omelette with 2 eggs, the last few pieces of spinach that were edible, 2 teaspoons of chopped sun-dried tomatoes and 2 teaspoons of goat cheese. De-lish!
I got to work feeling very subdued, despite my mug and a half of coffee, so I ran out and grabbed another cup, plus a mini-muffin to keep my energy up.
Okay, so this muffin is only mini by American standards. I was just in a horrible mood and needed some chocolate comfort. Note to self: this does NOT fix bad moods!
After my monster coffee – Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf makes coffee by adding 9,392 shots of espresso to one ounce of water (estimation on my part), I got the shakes. This coffee seriously made my heartbeat RACE and almost sent me into a panic attack! I was sweating bullets and couldn’t catch a full breath of air. I’m definitely sticking to my home-brewed coffee from now on!
Lunch rolled around and I was still feeling sick and miserable from my mid-morning snack, so I took my book outside and read for an hour. My daily vitamin-D requirement was met via sunshine.
The minutes crept by, then after 293 hours (another estimation on my part), it was finally time to clock out, so I made a quick purchase to brighten my day, and headed out.
I got a set of beer glasses!!! I’ve heard that having the correct type of glass can enhance the taste of the beer that’s poured into them, and now I can appreciate the beer to its fullest extent!
I didn’t have the patience to hand-wash these quite yet…
An Old Rasputin did the trick, even if it wasn’t the correct glass.
Dinner was a dairy-free Chicken Divan (Chi-Ken Dee-Vahn). Baked, shredded chicken, broccoli, a homemade “creamless cream of chicken soup”- (check back tomorrow for the recipe), and curry, baked until golden brown on top.
Don’t diss it until you’ve tried it! It’s a truly healthy comfort food!
I was invited to go out tonight, but was in such a foul mood that I didn’t want to inflict it upon any innocent bystanders, so I sat out back and sipped my brew with a lovely city view.
I am floating away…
I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching lately, trying to figure out my life. At heart, I really am a small-town girl, and, at the moment, I don’t think LA is my true calling. I used to get excited every time I went to set to film at 5am, headed to a class or got called out for an audition, but lately I feel like my heart has been pulling me in a different direction. I’m going to give myself another month or two of acting focus: which basically means I’m going to scour the breakdowns, film and submit for every single role that fits me. The only times I seem to get called in for a role is after I send in a filmed audition – my pictures just don’t seem to be working anymore (which sucks because I JUST got new ones), and I think if I work my ass off and determine my submission:audition ratio, this will help me decide where I’m headed.
If I go through these next two months and still feel myself at a stand-still, well, we’ll see what happens then. Who knows where I may end up? I’ve felt a calling from Ventura, a place I’ve always loved, or Northern California in a small town where there are people who are more down-to-earth like me, who love to be out hiking, biking, camping, brewing and EATING, and I’d love to find a church that I’m excited to attend every Sunday (i.e. with people my age!).
For now, I’ll trust that God has a plan for me, and if I keep leaning on Him (which seems to be all I can do lately – I feel like I have no strength or direction of my own), He’ll eventually guide me to my true calling. I apologize if this has been a bummer post, but since almost no one reads it, I’ve decided to treat this post as my journal.
Trust in Him and keep your eyes on the stars!
Or the pretty Christmas-y lights 🙂
